Hong Kong Auction Sizzles Again
Acker Merrall & Condit is the wine market leader in the United States released a report on their last sales auction in Hong Kong.April 2 - We have returned from Hong Kong after another successful auction this past weekend, with over 95% sold and US $4.36M on the gross. Over 300 bidders filled the room in what was a festive and exciting day at the auction, and bidding in the room was quite active until the very end. Demand remains strong in the wine market's newest hub, and bidders from all over the Far East as well as North America laid claim to an exceptional assortment of world class wines.
In addition, the auction saw a world record set for a single-bottle lot of Champagne, when a 1928 Krug Collection fetched HK $164,560 from the cellars of Robert Rosania, the greatest collector of Champagne in the world. Demand for Champagnes and older wines were of particular note, as never before had Hong Kong seen such an assortment of Champagne (courtesy of Rob's spectacular offering) or such depth of older wines on offer, and the market responded accordingly.
